Unity, Eventually
Behind me, the naivety of a future,
all that was fading until it feels extraneous,
gathering the dust of what could’ve been.
The only reliability we have left: the demand for destruction.
Tell me again how our existence matters.
I’ve learned more than I want to know:
How a lie tastes when you no longer believe.
How everyone is exploited, in retrospect.
Programmed and poisoned,
victims of a mass-roofying event, still half-asleep,
having been slipped such deceptively delicious concoctions.
Blinded consumers, we are, and we’re still buying,
our predators pouring empty prayers,
unaware they’re in the same death-boat.
This, the consummation of negligent reactions and tricked out redactions,
bigger than the mind fuckery of toxic masculinity,
where greed and need splinter necessity,
and safety never was.
The fatal refrain goes something like this:
Let me distract you.
It’s for your own good.
Really.
It’s almost convincing in the right light,
the plastic shine, particles hanging like tinsel, binding/blinding.
Being sold our own suffering is not something new,
but the blatant greed, the grandiose grossness seems so—
Standby for the further corporate-run-ruin of the planet—
And, my America, haven’t we become the worst corporation of all?
We the people:
An infantry of the sick, the lied to, the handicapped (or soon to be)
players in an unwinnable game—
A rigged war game created by self-appointed gods
whose surreptitious global governing—a colonial journey
marred with and made possible by genocide,
then and now and as needed.
Waiting our turn, no dice to roll,
awaiting the next manipulation, excuse, and execution.
We are victims taught to fear and accuse other victims.
Our allies become our enemies while the corporate criminals
continue to lie and steal and profit, proclaiming themselves the winners.
And when the hum of madness is loud enough to stomp our feet to,
when it is heard by all—
suffering having reached magnitude insufferable—
no immunity for our collective despair—
consequence made mandatory—
Finality finally arrives (un invited):
A light bright as dark,
burning all proof of us,
making equality unarguable.
Our silenced chorus no longer begging interruption/distraction/exception,
All of us will be singing the same song,
only the words will no longer matter.
Corruption concluded, existence no longer an option.
All of us gone in the same beat.
